New Life at Vermont

I would have told you I was writing this in some fancy yet also quaint coffee shop in Cebu City sipping my favorite salted caramel frappucino, but no, I am not. One because I am not in Cebu City anymore, and (2) I am not supposed to drink caffeinated beverages now.

I am writing this entry after months of hiatus, in our humble apartment here on a small city of northeastern part of the United States, called Newport. Not only that,
  • I am happily married now to the man whom I call my best friend.
  • Three months after the wedding, we have been gifted by God with the news that I am indeed pregnant despite of me being diagnosed with PCOS.
  • Four months after the wedding, we both migrated to the United States. I stayed for 6 weeks in Florida for training while he stayed with his aunt at New Jersey.
  • Last March 2021, we then moved to Newport, Vermont where we are now working as RNs in different healthcare institutions.
Needless to say, God has been so good to us. The journey was not easy to say the least, you know that. We both waited for more than three years for this. A lot of heartaches in between and some challenges here and there. But it is true that those who wait for the Lord will really see His goodness in the land of the living.

Though I waited for so long, I realized now why it was so. When I met Nico, it was the resolution of all my fruitless searches. All those years of heartaches and reverberating questions of "why" and "how long" now seemed to make sense. Praise is all I can say for the God who has orchestrated all things beautifully in His time.

On Dream 51 and Becoming the Next Action Star

However, in the Bible, the word ambition takes on a whole new dimension: “Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands …” (1 Thessalonians 4:11; cf.Philippians 1:17;Ephesians 5:8-10).

Where the world teaches us to go all out to be the best, to have a bigger house, a fancier car, a larger paycheck than our neighbor, the Bible teaches us the opposite: “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself” (Philippians 2:3). The apostle Paul tells us, “Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him” (2 Corinthians 5:9 NASB). The Greek word for “ambition,”philotim, means literally “to esteem as an honor.” Being ambitious, in and of itself, is not wrong, it’s what we esteem or honor that can be a problem. The Bible teaches that we should be ambitious, yet the objective is to be accepted by Christ, not by the world. Christ taught us that to be first in the Kingdom is to become a servant (Matthew 20:26-28;Matthew 23:11-12).

Paul once posed an insightful question: “Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men?” His answer: “If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ” (Galatians 1:10). Later, Paul reiterated: “On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts” (1 Thessalonians 2:4). Paul is affirming a truth proclaimed by Jesus Himself: “How can you believe if you accept praise from one another, yet make no effort to obtain the praise that comes from the only God?” (John 5:44). We must ask, what is our ambition: to please God or to please man?

Proverbs 16:1-3 - Plans (The Village Church Tapescript)

1. Who do your plans belong to? Okay, verse 1. Who do our plans belong to? Let's read it again. "The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord." Okay, so there are two answers to this question. It's not a trick question. There are your plans, and there are his plans. Okay? They are legitimately your plans.

These are plans. This word means preparation. This doesn't mean impulses. This isn't you driving down Forest Lane. You see the Whataburger. Before you know it, you're in front of the drive-thru order, going, "What am I doing here? Can I get a number five with a Dr. Pepper?" We're not talking impulses; we're talking plans. This is preparation. This word would be used in making an altar and bringing the wood around the altar, strategically, meticulously laying it.

It would be used of an army being prepared for battle in their battle array. These are plans. They're thought out. It doesn't get deeper than our hearts. It says this is the plan of your heart. Your heart constitutionally is a very basic identity word. It's what you're determined to have, what you're motivated to have more than anything else. These are your plans.

Then you notice to whom the plans belong. They belong to the Lord. When you see Lord, when you see that word capital L-O-R-D, that's not just a lord. That's Yahweh. That's his personal name. That's the same word that's used in Genesis in the creation story. We're saying here that the God who hung Orion's Belt has intimately claimed a stake in the details of your life. He has very much involved himself into the minutia of your life.

In fact, I would go so far to say he is proud of that. What makes the Hebrew story of creation so distinct is that, unlike every other god, whoever allegedly formed the world, Yahweh Elohim is the God who takes pride in getting his hands dirty and being in the details. He has claimed an intimate stake in the details of your life because your plans, the answer ultimately comes from him.

Honestly, 30-plus years later, I have seen some of my plans fulfilled. I've seen some of them have died. They're not going to happen. I'm still waiting on some. I know that's your story too. You're waiting on your plans. You're living some. You're seeing old ones die. You're seeing new ones form. I think a really good question for us is…

2. What does God see in your plans? What does he see in our plans? Well, I'd say two things. He sees underneath your plans, and then he sees beyond your plans. Let's read verse 2. It says, "All the ways of a man are pure [clear] in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit."

It says we're the most affirmed generation in history. We expect rapid advancement. We're not looking for the job that just pays the bills but an expression of our identity. It's not that we're confident. We're over-confident. We're cocky. However much of this is true (some of it is), this is what I know. Our "millennialness" exacerbates, it emphasizes, the fact that we think we can have what we want to have.

The Bible says God is actually looking underneath our plans. He gives us these desires, and he gives us this kind of creative energy to shape the way we want things to look. Yet he is weighing our spirit. That word spirit means frame of mind. You know, God is thinking about the things we think about. He is weighing our spirits. He is asking these questions. He is saying, "Why do you want that? Why do you need that? Why is that important for you?"

This is a personal conversation. He is a Father. That's what he does. He asks really good, heart-level questions. He is asking the questions underneath the questions. He is thinking about the things we think about. When you think about me, especially if I just kind of offer myself out here, I see giving God my plans is one thing.

Usually that works really well when I'm praying my plans into existence. I have two hands up in the air. I'm like, "God, give me this. Let me see this." I'll tell you. I'm in the danger zone as soon as one hand is down and one hand is up. It's a different story when I'm going, "I have to have this. This has to happen." If I could give you a microcosm of this, it's me in traffic. I keep going back to these traffic analogies, but just bear with me.

We all know. Christians know there are legitimately… God has ordained for us legitimate seasons where we will wait, where we will be confused, where wewill be annoyed. Yet instead of dealing with the traffic, I have to manufacture something into existence. I have to manipulate my circumstances to make something happen.

Guys, y'all are doing this too. Things aren't working out the way you want them to work out, and so you're trying to make things happen. Because what you want your relationship, what your relationship prospects were hopefully going to look like by this age haven't happened yet, you're finding yourself out at bars at stupid times at night with the wrong people.

Or your career plan hasn't happened the way you want it to, so you find yourself just kissing up to your boss. You're just working stupid hours because you want your boss to give you that promotion. Or financially you're not where you want to be, where you thought you'd be 10 years ago, so you're just getting into stupid debt because your plans told you that you should have more. We struggle with this. This is legitimately a struggle in our culture.

Sometimes I think the most encouraging thing we could hear is, first, God is not going to let us know in this and then, secondly, he is actually looking underneath our plans. What do I mean by that? I mean this. If you look into your future and you see that thing you think you need, what you're likely going to do is you're going to identify some shame in your life now.

If you're looking for that relationship into the future that hasn't happened yet, what that will actually do is that will be a signpost backwards to say, "I have shame in my life that the Lord hasn't given me the things I've been asking him to give me." If you want to know what those things are, those things you're looking way out into the future to try to figure out…

I'm sorry. Let me say that differently. You're looking way out into the future to try to figure out what those things are that will bring you some kind of affirmation, that will give some kind of meaning to your life. You're actually identifying idols you need to put to death.

Jimmy Needham is a local guy. I just love this song. I think he gives us a helpful way for us to think about what those things are. He says, "Anything that I put before my God, anything that I want with all my heart, anything that I can't stop thinking about, anything that I give all of my love…" These are the things you're looking way out into the future, and you're going, "God, I have to have this! I told you I wanted this, and you haven't given it to me yet. I'm going to make it happen."

You're manufacturing your plans, and God is not condemning you. He is not judging you. He is taking a scalpel to your heart. He is going, "Look at how unbalanced and unhealthy that is that you need those things now when I, the sovereign God who takes pride in the very details of your life, just haven't given you those things yet."

Some of y'all legitimately have no clue that when the psalms talk about God being your strength and your shield… Everybody wants him to be their strength. Everybody wants him to be the kind of power and strength and confidence they need to step into today, but I don't think we've scratched the surface of understanding what it means that he is our shield.

He is legitimately protecting us from thousands and thousands and thousands and thousands of scenarios that would kill us if we stepped into those things. He is way underneath our plans, but he is also way ahead. Because he is God, he has the privilege and the pleasure of looking into the future and being able to read those things into your life now. He knows!

Part of the reason why our plans aren't coming through is he is protecting us. He is shielding us from things he doesn't want to happen to us. He is underneath, and he is way out ahead. He is looking deep into your heart and way into your future.

3. What are we to do with our plans? I think probably the biggest question we should answer now at this point is what we are to do with our plans. I think verse 3 will help us there, so let's read that. What do we do with our plans? Are you ready for this? It says, "Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established." That's kind of a trick question. What are we supposed to do with our plans? That's flip-flopped, right?

The Bible doesn't say, "Commit your plans to the Lord, and your works will be established." He says, "Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established." It's the best possible outcome for us that he would flip-flop that. The word commit means literally to roll over, to lay on top of, to put your full weight onto something. God is saying if you lay all of yourself, if you commit the full weight of your life to the trust and to the service of Yahweh, your plans will be established.

I mean, that means you would say even today, "Whatever you ask of me, whatever you send to me, whatever you're calling me to do, even if I don't understand that thing, the answer is yes." You're abandoning yourself over to him. Some of you may go, "Well, that sounds really fatalistic, like I'm just lying down, and he is deciding everything." No, they're still your plans. I think Jeremiah can help us with this.

Jeremiah is this Old Testament prophet. He is asked to minister to people who don't want to listen. He is told, "You're going to have to wait a long time, and you're going to see very little fruit." His conversations with God are just epic. I mean, he is emotional. He cries. He complains. He is like, "Help me! God, what are you doing? I don't understand. I don't have the chops for this. Help me figure out what you're doing!"

Talk to him! Have a good, healthy back-and-forth dialogue with him. Talk to him. Bring the desires of your heart to the Lord. You're saying, "This isn't happening. Let me see this." He is a good Father. Watch him shape those desires while it's happening. Commit your life to him while you're doing it. This is the great invitation. You're saying, "I don't understand you, but I trust you." You get to bring your plans before the Lord, and you get to talk.

I learned something in the crucifixion story in Matthew that I had never seen before. I say this in closing. You have Jesus hanging on a cross. He has been crucified. You have Israel's elite. You have the chief priests. You have the scribes. You have the elders. They're sitting there, and they're mocking Jesus while he is dying. They're telling him, "You saved others. You can't save yourself. You say you trust God. Let God deliver you. You're the king. Come down off the cross, and we'll believe."

Their understanding of what a messiah would be was completely different from what the Messiah actually was. They were the ruling class. They had the most to gain. What they're saying is, "You need to go back there. You need to sack Rome. You need to run Rome out. You need to restore Israel to her glory days, the days when the proverbs were written." Basically they're saying, "Give us our plans. Give us better circumstances. Give us the life we wanted."

They had so much to gain in that prayer. Jesus listens to that appeal. In the most loving act in human history, he stays. He stays for them. The most loving act of human history. He sees it through. He purchases for them the best possible thing he could give them, and he doesn't answer their prayers. But he gives them the best possible gift he could give them. That is his life, forgiveness of sin, and nearness and reconciliation back to God.

When they were trying to pull him off the cross to get the things they thought they had to have, he stayed up there. He is listening to them tell him what they think they need. He is giving them what they have to have: his life. His life! What does this mean for us? It means God cares so much about the details of our lives that he will give everything and withhold everything that is necessary to conform us into the life of Jesus.

Yet the gospel says we are free to ask anything we want, assuming you want God to decide if it's good for you or not. It means the offer for him to take control is available for anyone who is coming to realize even this morning how hollow their plans really are. It gives us really good perspective. It gives us really good perspective!

To be a Christian is to say, "You gave yourself totally for me to make me pure, to forgive me of my sins, and for us to be together. Do not let anything come in my way. I couldn't even possibly be satisfied in getting every little dream of my heart if you're not in it. Don't give me something I think I want that's going to kill me. Don't do that!"

To be a Christian is to pray those prayers often. You know, Keller says it so well. God doesn't promise us better circumstances. He promises us a better life, he promises a new heart, that will transform even the most difficult of circumstances into good, even the most difficult seasons of waiting into good. There's no chance that you're going to avoid suffering, so stop trying to step away from it. You're going to step into suffering. I'm not saying to look for it, but when it comes, you're going to have to step into it.

The promise of a newly created heart is that God is going to transform that suffering into a grace and conform you into the life of his Son all the while. What do we do with our plans? Well, we trust this. We trust the gospel, and we get to keep asking and asking and asking because he is a good Father who loves to give good gifts. He loves to give good gifts. Commit your life to Jesus today. Put your full trust in his trustworthiness. The Bible says as a result of that (and this is really cool), your plans, everything he intends for your life, will be established.

Amen and Amen.

I See Scribbles

Ambut uy. Libug pajud kaayo tanan. Murag akong life karon kay series of dots pajud. Murag everything is in a standstill while the people around me are in motion. Murag undefined pa kaayo tanan. Uncertain. Everything is scrambled. Like all this time I was unconsciously building for that* but everything fell apart and crumbled down and I'm just here in all the ruins and the aftermath of it all. Not knowing what and where to start.

Lord, mao na siguro ni ang giingon nga All I Have Is Christ. You took everything away from me. All your answers was either a "No", or "Just Wait". The thing that I most fervently prayed for was YOUR WILL. And I believe that this is what's happening to me right now.
But why does it hurt this much?

Arrogant ra kaayo ko ug proud ug no reverence nga maka-pangutana nimo ana Lord but, you know my heart. Forgive me. Sakit lang jud.

Pero despite ani tanan Lord. I am putting my trust in You.
Walang wala najud ko ron Lord. I lift my empty hands. Come fill me up again. Have Your way in Me. I was blind but now I see. My tears, although they come in unexpected times of the day, have continued to clean my eyes to help me focus on YOU. You have took everything that I cling to that would take me away from you. You have "reformatted" my life. Pruned me. Rebuked me. All because You loved me so much.

Now, I will praise Your name Hallelujah. I will lift your Name on high. All I have is Christ. Though you may not calm the storms around me, I will find my rest in you. My wretched soul will continue to Praise you in this storm. And I will still declare and claim Jeremiah 29:11. Because You are not done with me yet. Your faithfulness does not depend on my situation. And whatever you have started with me, you will be faithful to complete it.

I will be your people. And You shall always be my God.

Who's A Sourgrape?

"Sometimes you make the right decision. Sometimes you make the decision right."
-Phillip C. McGraw

Sadly, there are no U-turns in life, no backspace, no undo, no CTRL + Z. It's up to us how we can make the most out of our decisions, no matter how regretfully bad they are.

Everything happens for a reason.

The regret that I carried on for 2 years now has been again bothering me. But then, this time I know better. I think all I need is to really double my time with stuff worth double-timing. Equip myself with the appropriate motivation and inspiration, quotes, books, and of course, prayers.

This will be a tough semester, well next to second semester of 3rd year, of course (but it's too early to worry about that for now).

I hope the things that I learned in the orientation will really sink in and be incorporated in my thoughts. First week and it's been a stress already! Lord, please guide me always.

Come What "May"

May 2012 has officially ended two days ago but it took me that long to sort out whether or not I should write a blog post about it.

As you have noticed (or not), my internet activity has significantly increased in this month more than any other months of the year. This could be justified by an increment in the number of blog entries, tweets, status updates, videos watched and favorited, and reblogs. I need not name the websites associated with the terms I used, do I? Also to add more of that "increase in activity", I have been able to avail those unlimited calls and texts offers my cellular network provides me. Though they cost a little too much for my daily summer allowance, there is a reason why, for the first time in the whole history of me having a cellphone, I've purchased Unlicall + text 25.

I didn't quite expect my month to turn out this way though; I thought it was just another Summer month. But it wasn't. And I'll tell you why.

Well it all started on the first day, May 1. I don't really think I should delve deeper as to what happened this day, but to just give you all nosy people a hint, I welcomed someone in my life. And that's when things started to go topsy-turvy -- too much for a month to handle.

Just a reference, I had summer classes from mid-April to mid-May. The last two weeks of it were all centered on that someone I've met. Well, this isn't a private blog and I think it'd be inappropriate to spill the details but we communicated in all forms of communication, apart from the most convenient one, talking face to face. I guess you get the sitch. (Insert Call Me Maybe tune here).

Long story short, I thought what we had was real (eww gross!) and I imagined all the possibilities that we could have been but it turns out he was a total jerk and I was better off without him. I realized a lot of things, but some in a painful way.

I have come to the conclusion that you should not settle for anything less than what you deserve. If you think you deserve to be respected, then don't settle for someone who doesn't give you that.

To quote my favorite movie, (500) Days of Summer, "the best way to get over a guy is to turn him into literature". Considering the fact that what we had was just a meager summer fling, I would just turn him into a blog entry. El oh el.

Meanwhile, on the other side of my life, my immune system has been battling recurrent otitis media brought about by sore throat and colds. I get bouts of fever every once in a while but they're not that high. Being a nursing student can be hard sometimes; you can get paranoid on almost anything that's going wrong in your systems. There was one night when my ears ached so hard my head ached too (I couldn't tell which is worse), I was thinking that my 8th cranial nerve was already infected by the bacteria, then I was starting to feel dizzy and I was too scared to sleep and so I just cried and cried until my nose went all congested I had to change position..next thing I knew it was already morning. Kuh-razy!

I decided to put Come What "May" as a title because it ends the month on a positive note. Deep inside, way past the bitterness of my heart and saltiness of my phlegm (ew!), I am optimistic that things will turn out for the better.

Desiderata

Just 2 years ago, when I was still in high school, our teacher gave us this prose poem for us to work on and reflect for our Values Education subject.

When I read the poem, I was in awe of it's accuracy. This literally explained everything this world and it's people are going through for generations to generations. It is like an instruction on how to handle life in the world. Although nothing compared to the Bible, but this one is shorter but nonetheless very compelling.

I'm really grateful that I came across this poem for it has truly inspired me in ways I cannot imagine.

-------------------------------------------------------------
Desiderata
(Latin for: Desired Things)
by M. Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
They are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle to yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars
and you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusions of life.
Keep peace within your soul;
with all it's sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

There had been controversies as to who truly wrote this poem because, from what I understood, it was mysteriously found on Old Saint Paul's Church in Baltimore, MD during 1692. Because of this, it has been referred to as The Baltimore Prayer.

It became a phenomenon, because of it's construction and history, however, literary detectives went to work on Desiderata. Soon, it's true story was slowly revealed.

They found out that it was really written in 1927, by Max Ehrmann, a poet/author and lawyer graduate from Harvard's School of Philosophy.

But despite all this, many questions still remain. And if you are interested in learning about the history of Desiderata, you may want to be redirected here.

On Favorite Songs and Whatnot

Part I: On Favorite Songs
Being the music-obsessed that I am, I don't really have a favorite song. For me, asking about what your favorite song is is like making a mother choose between her children - hard and it's just not morally right! L0L.

Instead I prefer it to be asked like this: If all the songs on my playlist were deleted, and only one song will be spared, then it's this song:

It Might Be You
by Stephen Bishop

Time, I've been passing time watching trains go by
All of my life
Lying on the sand watching seabirds fly
Wishing there could be someone
Waiting home for me
Something's telling me it might be you
It's telling me it might be you
All of my life
Looking back as lovers go walking past
All of my life
Wondering how they met and what makes it last
If I found the place would I recognize the face
Something's telling me it might be you
It's telling me it might be you
So many quiet walks to take
So many dreams to wake and there's so much love to make
I think we're gonna need some time
Maybe all we need is time
And it's telling me it might be you
All of my life
I've been saving love songs and lullabies
And there's so much more
No one's ever heard before

Something's telling me it might be you
Yeah, it's telling me it must be you and
I'm feeling it'll just be you
All of my life
It's you, it's you I've been waiting for all of my life
Maybe it's you, Maybe it's you I've been waiting for all of my life.
The green colored texts are some of my favorite lines in this song. This song somewhat describes the state of my love life status at the moment. No, this song is not dedicated to anyone, yet. I haven't found anyone who's worthy to hear me say, "Maybe it's you I've been waiting for all of my life". And with how things are around this time of my life, I am pretty sure it will be a long time before I could finally say those words.

And because of that, I'd like to elaborate more on this line:
"I've been saving love songs and lullabies
And there's so much more
No one's ever heard before"
I feel like I have a lot to share to someone -- lullabies, quotes, stories, plans, lyics, songs, etc. And I just keep it inside me, waiting for the one who is deserving to hear them all. I have been saving all these things for him, whenever he comes.

Part II: Whatnot
My dad introduced me to this song when I was little, along with other 80's classics that he used to play on our vcd-player every morning on school days when I prepare for school during my elementary years. And when I arrive home, every once in a while there would be karaoke at our neighborhood and my dad would be singing all good songs from the generation where music was genuine and good (60's, 70's, to early 90's). And I kinda grew up in that environment.
I love listening to music. And that is not just your typical cliche term some people use. I really love listening to music! I could be walking down the grocery aisle and a random song with good tune comes up, I'd quickly get my cellphone to type in parts of the lyrics of that unknown good song and search it up on the internet. I'm the type that loves good music and treasures it. I can't sleep without my earphones on. Well, I could sleep but it's just not the same if I listen to music. My ears are sensitive to music. I think it's a compromise because I wasn't blessed with good singing voice nor any talent in playing an instrument, considering the fact that I grew up with musically-inclined people.
I am not the instrument player, not the singer, nor the dancer. I am the listener. I listen, I remember the melody, I feel them inside and let them take me elsewhere just like how books take me to places I might never be at in real life. I'm a spectator, a wallflower, a listener. I listen to what the melody in the music tells me, and I listen to the words I hear in my mind as I read what the author is trying to tell me. And I understand.

Hot Summer Nights

I know my title could give you queer thoughts, but the adjective there pertains to the weather on a summer night, particularly this one I am experiencing right now.

Usually in the place where I'm at, the average day temperature for April-May would be 32 degrees Celsius. At night it would drop to a considerable 22 degrees C, the usual day temperature for the -ber months.

I am not talking about the weather just because there are no more things to talk about, but because the weather now is actually worth a blog entry. Err, I don't make proper sense, do I?

At night when I am waiting for me to fly off to dreamland, I would gaze up at the window screen. My bed is situated close to the wall where my window is, you see. I especially positioned it that way not only to have all the cool night breeze I want, but to gaze at the stars of the night sky and trying to find where Orion is as well, although it is almost always detectable. Othertimes I make up my own constellations, like how these bunch of stars could connect and make up what seems to be a Daisy for me. It is a great view, and I always thank God for me to experience little wonders like that. I just wished my part of the night sky isn't polluted by Light from the city just a mile or two away though.

But the night tonight is different. I expected to see my constellations, but all I saw where gray clouds. I could see patches of the dark-blue sky, but it is small enough to be appreciated. Also, the temperature was warmer than the previous cloudless nights.

Was it going to rain? I hope so. It's a good compromise from a starless-night.

I have been currently reading two books at the moment:

1.) A .pdf copy of David Levithan and Rachel Cohn's Dash and Lily's Book of Dares. I'm not yet halfway and from what I can see, it is a good book. I'm sure teenagers of 13-16 would love to read it. But I am way past beyond that age range. If only I could've read this earlier, I would have appreciated it more.

2.) The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein. It is a prelude to The Lord of The Rings epic trilogy. My bestfriend, Franz (Sis) lent me the book which was originally owned by her sister, Ate Georgia. I'm already about 9 chapters more till the end and all I can say is that it is truly a work of art. First time to read Tolkein's and it has delighted me.The only thing I regret though is that I wish I read the Trilogy first, as there have been side-notes and if-you-remember's in some parts of the story. I'm eager to finish the book and start reading The Fellowship of the Ring after. :D

Before Sunrise, Before Sunset

This summer break, I have been busy doing marathons on movies, that is, and I watched a lot of interesting ones, those that I have been wanting to watch but did not have the resources (time, dvd, links, etc). So this summer break has been a great opportunity to spend my time for those stuff. Thanks to my helpful 'friend', I got this amazing website that just supplies what I need.

The movies that I ticked off of the list are:

  • The Proposal. (very hilariously heart-warming, and Ryan Reynolds is just so HOT!)
  • Jumper. (pretty good concept, if someone asked me what superpower I'd like to have, then I'd pick this one fo sure. It's like apparating in a modern-not-a-wizarding-way way. lol)
  • Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging. (too teenflicky -- I mean if I was 14, I'd probably would have liked this so much but then I had to watch it because everyone else was talking about it...and yeah, well Aaron Johnson was so freakin cute on this movie, and the British accents, oh boy I could listen to it all day!)
  • The Gods Must Be Crazy. (the 1980's classic, omg I am just so thankful I have come across this movie..Philosophy + Clean humor, in one film, very very classic. One of my top faves of all time)
  • and a couple of episodes from House M.D. and Skins UK (just to catch up on what I've missed).
But the one special movie that has caught up my interest was Before Sunrise (1995). I googled something about top movies of all times (Okay I know what you're thinkin' but well it was worth the shot), and this movie kept on appearing on all the lists I have seen on almost every article I've read. So I thought, I could watch the trailer and see if it really proves it's worth, because I wasn't convinced with the movie poster. Well I guess it's just like the way they say it when it comes to books, that you don't judge it by it's cover. It's kinda same with the movie and it's poster. Okay so much about the poster. LOL. I'll just talk about how this movie and it's sequel produced 9 years after, Before Sunset (2004) touched me inside that I didn't know any film could do.

The movies, I must fearlessly say, has been one of the BEST movies I have seen in my ENTIRE LIFE yet. And the caps are there to emphasize it. You can call me whatever you want basing on this post but I have never cried so hard because of a movie as I have been with this. Like literally, I have been like a total mess with all the tears. And I cried like a baby, by that I mean like I sobbed with sounds coming from my mouth uncontrollably.
In my opinion, the movie and it's sequel are very underrated. But I think it is just perfect that it is that way because that is what makes it even more special…apart from the very witty conversations and how the actors are just so natural, Hawke and Delpy, and the European setting, and just EVERYTHING about the movie. It is like a treasure, like, it is meant to be hidden deep, only to be found to those who are eager to find it, or to have the 'map' or 'compass', I should say. Well those things could be anything to any person, but I guess for me, they were...the links from google. (Har de har har).
Anyhow going back, It is that kind of movie that you cannot get over with for a couple of days, and when you do, there is always that part of your consciousness that reminds you about how everything went..the scenes, the conversation, the feeling and the mood. It is as if you are a part of the movie. And I think that every great movie should be like that. Like, the viewers should not be a viewer only, he/she should be part of the scene. There should be a connection between the characters and the audience. And as for me, I felt connected to the characters, and the emotions they are portraying through their lines and stuff they do on screen. It was as if, it was for me to see, for me to witness, to hear, to understand, to feel. I know I'm going so deep into this and I don't even know if I sound logical or I'm losing it but, I guess it's just have to be that way, you just have to feel it in an art that is this film, to make it one of your top favorites. I'm even afraid to look at the movie poster because the mixture of feelings, the ambivalence, all the feelings, is still there, and it brings a twinge to my heart. Man am I that fucked up already? I don't know.
I am really glad I came across and witnessed this piece of art by Director Richard Linklater. I've never fallen in love with such good characters since (500) Days of Summer.

You Can Never Outgrow God

Do you think you can outgrow your God? Do you think because your situation now in life is different, feels much harder than those you face...
